Research so far...
The research I have done so far is that I have started watching a different types of music videos with various genre such as Nikki Manaj's Anaconda video, Hard out here by Lily Allen as well as I love you papi by Jennifer Lopez. In these music videos there were many similarities such as women wearing tight clothes, the way they act as in doing sexual moves which attracts male attention. In particularly the music video I love you Papi by Jennifer Lopez, she objectifies men but she still wears very revealing clothes which then makes her the center piece of the video even though she is objectifying men. There's also star construction which shows how she controls her image. I have also looked at Andrew Godwin's theory for music videos and created a separated blog for it. I have also found an article on The Daily Telegraph Newspaper which is about how sexualized music videos on teach women to sell out and that women body is there to sell the product, also how the female artists are selling the message that women are nothing more than accessories and only value of sexual objects. My next step is to analyse these music videos as well as other types of music videos with different genres as well as keep finding journals, newspaper articles on women being sexualized in music videos.

Andrew Godwin Theory
Andrew Godwin's conventions in music videos:
- Star Construction
- Intersexual Refrences
- Relationship between lyrics and visuals
- Voyeurism
- Narrative and Performance
Voyeurism
Notion of looking and often used to sexualise the characters in the videos, it could also beuse for simply spying on someone. This can be achieved throught the use of handled camaras,
mirros as well as screens and much more.
Relationship between the lyrics and the Visuals
Visuals can be used to illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics of the song.Narrative and Performance
Godwin proposed that it was bad for music videos to have either narrative or performance. Thisallows the video to be more entertaining and so the audience can retain theattention of the music
video. This can be also used to create another layer of meaning to the music video and make
it more memorable.
Star Construction
This is where the artists might associate with certain places, iteams or ideas that are iconic andmemorable to their audiences. And this can be achieved through the use of propps.
Intersexual Refrences
This works by refrencing and relating to the things outside the video and it's another techniquethat can be used to add or to create a meaning in the video by refrencing it to other media
products and the artists can appeal.

Why women in music videos are sexualised?
For my research task I will be analysing different type of music videos with various genres and explore why women in today’s society aresexualised in the music videos. In my analysis I will particularly be focusing on the costumes worn by women, codes and conventions of the music videos across all genres. However, the genre rap and pop often follow the idea of sexualising females in music videos while other genres of music such as rock and R&B, with the artists being female, often show the woman as being empowered and independent with less attention being brought to their physical beauty so I will be comparing the these different genres and coming with a conclusion the reason behind this.
For my post production I will be creating a music video which will focus on women in music video and going against the codes and conventions of the music videos.
