For my research task I will be analysing different type of music videos with various genres and explore why women in today’s society aresexualised in the music videos. In my analysis I will particularly be focusing on the costumes worn by women, codes and conventions of the music videos across all genres. However, the genre rap and pop often follow the idea of sexualising females in music videos while other genres of music such as rock and R&B, with the artists being female, often show the woman as being empowered and independent with less attention being brought to their physical beauty so I will be comparing the these different genres and coming with a conclusion the reason behind this.
For my post production I will be creating a music video which will focus on women in music video and going against the codes and conventions of the music videos.
Nicki Minaj is a great source of analysis. Particularly Anaconda.
